THE MEADOWMOUNT EXPERIENCE
In 1944, the legendary Ivan Galamian's dream to create a place where his violin students could practice and perform without distraction came true. Acquiring 200 acres in the Adirondack Park in New York State, he began his Meadowmount School of Music. Attracting students age 8-30 from all over the world, Meadowmount provided a peaceful and inspiring setting for rigorous practice and coaching on their instruments and in chamber music.
Over the decades, Mr. Galamian and his faculty
prepared many of the world's great string players for
their life's work. Itzhak Perlman, Jaime Laredo,
Pinchas Zukerman, Kyung-Wha Chung, Glenn Dicterow,
Lynn Harrell, Yo-Yo- Ma and Joshua Bell all spent summers
at Meadowmount.
Recognizing that talent was the foundation for a musical career, Mr. Galamian also helped students to understand that motivation, focus and strength of character were values crucial to their success.
Years after Mr. Galamian's passing, his philosophy remains the cornerstone of our mission and the force that encourages our students in their aspiration to be leaders in the musical world. After being part of Meadowmount for four decades, I view the Meadowmount School as poised to continue in its work developing professional musicians in the 21st century.
