David Russell
Internationally renowned violin pedagogue DAVID RUSSELL has been a member of the violin faculty at The Cleveland Institute of Music for twenty-four years. He is a charter faculty member of the ENCORE School for Strings, and has served as Visiting Violin Faculty at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. Additionally, Mr. Russell has taught at numerous summer festivals including Keshet Eilon International Violin Mastercourse (Israel), ARIA International Summer Music Academy (Canada), Credo (Oberlin), and Blue Mountain Chamber Music Festival (Princeton). He has been a member of the distinguished jury of the Sion-Valais International Violin Competition in Switzerland, as well as numerous other national and international competitions. He has given violin masterclasses worldwide, including Europe, Asia, Middle East and North America.
Mr. Russell has performed in recital and chamber music concerts throughout the U.S., Canada, Israel and China. He is the Founder and former Artistic Director of The Pensacola Chamber Music Festival in Florida, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society. Mr. Russell served as coordinator of the CIM String Chamber Music program and Director of its annual CIM Chamber Music Festival. He has been heard in recital on NPR's "Performance Today", and in the Glenn Gould Studio of the CBC in Toronto. His former teachers include Linda and David Cerone, with summer studies with Josef Gingold and Ivan Galamian. His chamber music teachers include members of The Cleveland Orchestra, and members of the Tokyo and Juilliard Quartets.
Among his current and former students are competition winners, soloists with major orchestras, and professional chamber and orchestral musicians (including members of The Cleveland Orchestra). Additionally, Mr. Russell is a developer of several unique international musical projects, including the East Asia Arts Partnership, and "Violins From the Ashes", a musical program performed on restored violins of the Holocaust (in collaboration with Israeli violin maker Amnon Weinstein, violinist Shlomo Mintz and the Keshet Eilon Music Center).
